Baptist Health System and the South Texas Blood Tissue Center have partnered to donate blood.
The Baptist Healthcare Heroes Blood Drive Challenge begins August 23 and spans six hospitals within the Baptist Health System.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t work for Baptist. The South Texas Blood Tissue Center always requires blood donations, so we encourage you to donate.
“We are dependent on donors. There is no other way to get blood,” said Teresa Durand, blood bank medical director for the Baptist Medical System.
STB&T says it now has two days of all blood types available. This falls short of our six-day goal to keep hospitals in our area well supplied.
Donating blood is used for all kinds of emergencies, including blood transfusions, surgeries, and traumatic diseases.
Regardless of your blood type, STB&T and Baptist require all blood types.
“We always want to be able to maintain inventory levels, and we want blood to be available to anyone who comes in,” Durand said.
According to STB&T, you must meet the following requirements to donate blood:

Be over the age of 16 (with parental consent).

Weighs over 120 pounds.

Take care.

Please bring a valid photo ID.
When applying for donation, screening such as questionnaire and hemoglobin test is required. If you don’t pass any of them, you can’t donate.
The main event of the Blood Donation Challenge is August 23rd, but will run until August 26th.
